MFL
Welcome to Modern Foreign LanguagesThe Modern Foreign Languages Department may consist of only French and Spanish but we strive to develop an atmosphere where all languages are celebrated and cultural awareness is promoted.  The teaching staff speak 5 languages between them and have a wealth of international experience which is passed on to our learners to ensure they see language as beneficial to their life chances.

Extra curricular and enrichment activities

European Languages Week is a chance to celebrate not only the languages of Europe but cultural diversity.  The canteen menu reflects the theme and learners have the opportunity to order food in either French or Spanish through the use of a translated menu.  Pupils who speak other languages at home offer taster sessions throughout the week.  Quizzes and competitions involve all forms.

The Normandy Trip provides learners the chance to experience language in an authentic setting.  Learners have the opportunity to attend a study school in North Normandy for 4 days where they will practice language through cultural visits and outward bound activities.

Castlebrook has set up a partnership with a school in France called College Rene-Cassin in Baume les Dames.  Projects have been completed across all year groups and these include personal letters, the creation of a school brochure and a cross-curricular media and music project.

The MFL department provides EAL learners the opportunity to take GCSE language in their first language wherever possible.

After school classes and holiday classes are also on offer.
