Welcome to Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Careers Education.  It is a department that is committed to ensuring that our learners are able to gain a broad understanding of themselves and the society in which they live and are able to become responsible and contributing members of both the school community and the wider communities to which they belong.

Key Stage 4

During KS4 each learner will complete a minimum of a short course GCSE in Citizenship Studies with the option of doing a full course if they choose to do so.  The statutory requirements for Personal, Social and Health Education and Work Related Learning are also covered.

The full course GCSE consists of four units; two are assessed by means of an examination and the other two by means of Controlled Assessment tasks.  The examinations focus on a wide range of topics including Law, Democracy and Politics, Employment Rights, Consumer Rights and Human Rights.  The Controlled Assessment tasks enable learners to get involved in issues in a more practical and hands-on way.  This includes researching an issue and planning a campaign of action to highlight and promote causes which they support.

Those learners following the short course do one Controlled Assessment and one examination from the full course.
