Mr D Crabtree
Community Governor

Born in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire I attended Calder High School, one of the first comprehensive schools in the country. I then gained a degree in civil engineering at Manchester University and started my career with George Wimpey working on a road contract in South Wales. After four years in design work, in the London and Salford offices, I moved to work with Sir Alfred McAlpine on the M63 (now M60) between Sale and Sharston. From there I moved to the Manchester Ship Canal Company, and after 6 years with them I went to work for the City of Salford on highway and bridge design where I stayed until I retired as group leader of one of the design sections in the office. I am the Chair of the School Environment sub-committee which has a particular focus on the School's premises. Given my civil engineering background I feel I am well suited to this role. |

Aged 55, I am the father of two grown up sons, previously pupils of Castlebrook, and an LEA appointed Governor.
I have worked in Financial Services for 20 years, originally with Barclays Wealth Management and Barclays Private Banking. I left after 12 years to look after my two sons and started my own practice. Three years ago I started Platinum (SRI) Financial Services to develop a market for Ethical and Socially Responsible Investments which I am pleased to be doing today.
Last year I was invited to help promote, plan and organise the 7th Salford Film Festival and will be working hard on the 8th Festival, November 2011. In 2007 I was a regular guest on local radio "Lunch Time Live with" to answer listener's financial planning questions. I am now in my third year as a Governor at Castlebrook and hope to continue for much longer. I sit on two committees, School Improvement and School Resources as well as Full Governors. My special role is Linked Governor to the Arts, Drama and Media departments which I hope to develop this year.

Rev L Bullas
Community Governor
|
Being a governor at Castlebrook is part of a portfolio of activities and interests I'm able to pursue as a retired person. It also reflects a lifelong interest in and passion for education. I'm also a governor at Whitefield Community Primary School and chair of the Bury Governors' Association. Then there is my continuing work as a Methodist minister; my interest in sport, especially Bury FC and Lancashire cricket; and my children and grandchildren. I'm also a bit of a potter (an interest I took up after retirement) and recently started to dabble in watercolour painting.
Retirement came after a long and varied career in journalism, the last 25 years of which I spent as education correspondent at the Manchester Evening News. And there was a period in my life when I was a Bury MBC councillor, including experience as leader of council and chair of education, personnel and policy committees.

Mrs S Mason
LEA Governor

I worked for 25 years as an NHS administrator. When I retired in 1994 I wished to become involved in helping the community and was elected as an Unsworth Councillor to Bury MBC thereby becoming a Governor at Castlebrook High School and also Hollins Grundy Primary School. Although I stepped down as a Councillor after 8 years' service my interest in Unsworth and Hollins has continued. I am a founder member and Secretary of Hollins Village Community Association I am also a trustee of two local Charities. Whenever I have any spare time I tend to my garden, read and like to drive.

Mr M Lunney
Parent Governor
|
As a Chief Executive for a charitable organisation, I have sound knowledge in HR and finance generally with some 25 years hands on experience in administration in the public, private & voluntary sectors.
I hold a broad range of qualifications around business, finance and management acquired over several years of study and exposure to varied commercial challenges in my working background.
In addition to being an elected parent governor at Castlebrook High School, I believe strongly in voluntary work and also find time as a local Magistrate, on the Bury bench, both of which I believe gives something back to the local community. I am a firm believer in personal, individual development and am an advocate toward self awareness and improvement to individual wellbeing.
I feel my knowledge and background would be of huge benefit in the role of school governor. My skills and experience will allow me to contribute and push forward the schools aims and objectives. I live in Bury, married to Karen; I'm a regular (weekly) squash and badminton player and enjoy most sport, as well as the occasional social drink.
